DECATUR — Alyssa Allen went 4-of-eight with three doubles and three RBIs as visiting Dowagiac swept Decatur in non-conference softball Wednesday.
The Chieftains (3-1) defeated the Raiders 8-3 in the first game and scored 10 runs in the first inning of the nightcap in a 16-1 victory.
The second game lasted just five innings.
“Our bats finally came alive today in the fifth inning of the first game and into the second game,” Dowagiac coach Mike Behnke said. “We started keeping our hands inside and driving the ball hard and everyone on the team had at least one hit on the day.
“We are getting contributions from everyone on the team and the girls are starting to learn how to play varsity softball and be unselfish so we can win games. We now have a week off for spring break and will have to come back ready because we have six games the first week back.”
Megan Soderbloom picked up the win in relief in the first game.
Dowagiac pounded out 12 hits, led by Taylor Hulett and Riley Daly, who were both 3-for-4 with a double. Allen also had a double, while Marissa Dodd drove in a pair of runs.
In the nightcap, Allen was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Dodd was 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Hulett was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Mickie Kiggins, Daly, McKenzie Herter and Megan Huey all finished with two hits.
Soderbloom picked up a pair of RBIs.
Hulett (2-0) picked up the victory as she struck out five and did not walk a batter.
