With the weather slowly becoming warmer, many area organizations are getting ready to put on annual events and fundraisers.

The Niles City Council gave approval for several of these events during its regular meeting last week.

The Pregnancy Care Center will hold its annual LifeWalk in the downtown area from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 20.

The Riverfront Optimist Club has scheduled its 13th annual Niles Family Carnival and Bluegrass Festival from May 28 to May 31 in the Riverfront Park area.

Also Monday:

• The council approved the purchase of a new Ford transit van from Campbell Ford, of Niles, for $30,600.

• The council accepted a quote of approximately $95,000 from Cannon Truck Equipment, of Shelby Township, to equip a 2002 F650 Utilities Department truck with a service body. The truck will be reassigned to the Wastewater Treatment Plant in exchange for a 1995 International Dump truck at the service center.

• The council committed to ordering 1,000 tons of bulk rock salt from the MiDeal program. The cost will be determined at a later date.
