The Niles Township Fire Department worked a structure fire in the 1600 block of Cedar Point Drive in Niles Thursday evening.

Firefighter Josh Sherrick said his department was initially dispatched for a smoke investigation at around 6 p.m.

Sherrick said he noticed smoke coming from behind a door to a bedroom and located the fire.

It took about 30 minutes to get it under control. The fire caused approximately $25,000 worth of damage and most of it was to the bedroom.

Sherrick said the resident had been burning leaves and that an ember might have caused the fire.
