Michigan State Police have confirmed the identification of the body found in a mobile home after a fire at Riverside Estates Lot 76 in Buchanan.

The male has been identified as 24-year-old Theodore William Lanser, who was residing at the location. Positive identification was made through finger prints obtained during an autopsy. Confirmation was made by two independent courses: the FBI and the South Bend Police Forensics Lab.

The autopsy, which was conducted Tuesday at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, found that Lanser died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Preliminary investigation of the trailer showed indications of fuel accelerants being used to start the fire. The official autopsy and fire investigation reports are pending completion.

The incident began at 10:30 p.m. Saturday when police were dispatched to the mobile home on multiple reports of shots being fired from the residence.

Upon arrival, police heard more gunshots and set up a perimeter around the structure. At some point, officers noticed smoke and flames coming from the trailer and heard one last gunshot.

Firefighters were unable to quickly extinguish the fire because ammunition was exploding from inside the mobile home.

One body was later found inside the trailer.
