No one was injured, but traffic was shut down for hours when two semi tractor trailers and a passenger vehicle were involved in an accident Friday morning on US-31.

The accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. north of the Walton Road exit on northbound US-31 in Niles.

Trent Babcock, of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, said one semi bumped into another one during white-out snowy conditions. That caused one semi to end up sideways across the road.

“We had to shut it down long enough to get those trucks moved,” he said. “No one was hurt. It just took a long time to get everyone moved because of the traffic and the weather.”

The car, which was traveling behind the semis, crashed into one of semis.

There was minor damage to all vehicles.

The road was closed for just more than two hours.
