More than a year after its release, the Walt Disney animated movie “Frozen” remains as popular as ever.

Just ask Santa Claus.

Preschool student Evelyn Bergerson asked Santa for “Frozen” themed shoes during Santa’s appearance at a Niles-Buchanan Rotary Club Christmas program Monday at Brandywine’s Bell Education Center.

Bergerson’s classmate, Gianna Ball, had a similar request too.

“Frozen shoes,” she said.

Bergerson and Ball were two of 34 Tri-County Head Start students who benefited from the Rotary Club’s annual event.

In addition to meeting Santa, the students ages 3 to 5 received a free lunch and presents — all courtesy of the Rotary Club.

Rotarian Jim Meyer said the Rotary Club has been offering the Christmas party to Head Start students for approximately 30 years.

“Rotary does a lot of educational programs and lots of scholarships, but this is one where we get to be face to face with the students,” Meyer said. “The kids are thrilled to see Santa… it is fun to see.”

This was the second year in a row the event has been held at the Bell Education Center. Prior to that, it was held at Northside Child Development Center for many years.

Brandywine’s Treblaires choir group treated those in attendance to Christmas songs during lunch. The select group of singers has performed at the Christmas party for the past two years.

Student Rotarians from Niles, Brandywine and Buchanan acted as chaperones for the preschoolers during the event.

Tri-County Head Start is a federally-funded early childhood program serving kids in the counties of Berrien, Cass and Van Buren.
