A Benton Harbor woman with multiple retail fraud convictions received what amounts to one last chance to stay out of trouble from a Berrien County judge.

Tasha Yavette-Ebony Glover, 32, will not spend any more time in jail, but must satisfy the terms of a two-year probation sentence handed down by Judge Dennis Wiley Monday in Berrien County Court in Niles.

Glover was sentenced on one count of first degree retail fraud, a charge she pleaded guilty to earlier. Assistant Prosecutor Amy Byrd said the charge stems from when Glover and a co-defendant stole merchandise from a Dollar General Store in Berrien Springs.

It was Glover’s third retail fraud conviction in the past year, according to Wiley.

“If you want to avoid a prison sentence you might want to follow these (probation) rules,” Wiley said.

“If you don’t, this (a prison sentence) is a likely outcome.”

Glover attempted to explain her actions by saying Monday that she makes bad decisions when she is not taking her medication.

Wiley said that does not justify what she did.

“There are a lot of people out there with mental health issues… but they aren’t all stealing,” he said.

As a condition of probation, Glover must complete any recommended mental health treatment and not have any contact with any retail store. She must also testify against her co-defendant and pay more than $2,500 in fines and court costs.

Also Monday, Anthony Freeman Davis, 25, of Niles, was sentenced to two years on probation on one count of resisting and obstructing a police officer. He must serve the first 180 days in jail and an additional 90 days on an electronic monitoring program administered through the Michigan Department of Corrections.
