Get ready to take a trip down the rabbit hole.

The Niles High School theatre department will put on three performances of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” this weekend in the high school auditorium. It is this year’s fall play.

Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

The play is based on the classic novel of the same name that tells the tale of a girl who falls through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar creatures.

Director Kristin Adams-Bondy said the biggest challenge in taking on a classic tale like Alice in Wonderland is living up to the expectations by audiences who already love the story and its characters.

“In developing this production, it was important not to imitate past productions and films, but find our own way while keeping true to the spirit of the story,” she said. “One thing that sets this one apart is the casting of two Alices. It gives us a chance to toy with both the sometimes fluid nature of identity — who are you? — and the dream world in which it sometimes appears Alice is navigating.”

Adams-Bondy said the cast should be commended for their creative costuming and the long hours they put into the play.

“It has brought me great joy to watch the growth of many Class of 2015 actors who began acting when Niles High School’s fall play was reinstated three years ago,” she said. “Best of luck to each of them.”
