Eddies win, Chieftains lose in Wolverine soccer

Dowagiac and Edwardsburg are headed in different directions in the Wolverine Conference Soccer Tournament, which began Wednesday.

No. 1-seeded Plainwell 4-0 defeated the Chieftains, while Edwardsburg defeated Otsego 3-1.

“We were outmatched by a veteran team,” Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said. “We couldn’t amount an offensive attack.”

In other action, Sturgis blanked South Haven 1-0 and Paw Paw defeated Allegan 6-1.

The Eddies will travel to Plainwell to take on the top-ranked Trojans on Monday, while Sturgis will travel to Paw Paw.

Dowagiac will head to Otsego on Monday and South Haven will host Allegan in the other consolation match.

The championship and consolation finals are set for Wednesday at the site of the highest seed.
