MISHAWAKA — The Niles volleyball team defeated Mishawaka in four exciting sets Tuesday night.

The Vikings (16-8-3) defeated Mishawaka 25-17, 25-23, 19-25 and 27-25.

“Beating Mishawaka has been one of our goals for the past three years and my team was focused on achieving that goal tonight,” Niles coach Jenny Nate said. “The third set, we struggled with our serve receive, but were able to stay relaxed and keep working to get back on track. We lost that set 25-19. In the huddle before the fourth set, we agreed that we were winning this in four.

“My team rallied together, took the court and made it happen winning a nail biter. Mishawaka had a very loud student section and it was a great test for my players to remain composed, calm, not get hung up on errors and focus on one point at a time.

“I’m proud of their team effort and their ability to set a goal and achieve it. They are getting stronger as a team and we are excited to finally have our home opener tomorrow against Benton Harbor.”
