A Niles teenager was injured when the bicycle he was riding came into contact with a truck Tuesday afternoon in downtown Niles.

Ralyn Cox, the mother of the bicyclist, said her 16-year-old son received a cut on the head, but was doing fine.

“They just wanted to go check him out,” she said.

Cox said her son’s name is Travis Cole and that he will be a sophomore at Niles High School this fall.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Sycamore and N. 5th St. around 5 p.m.

Cole was traveling east on Sycamore when his bicycle collided with a truck traveling south on N. 5th Street.

Lt. Mike Stanton, of the Niles City Police Dept., said based on witness statements it appears that the bicyclist was at fault. No tickets were issued and no one was arrested.

Stanton said the bicyclist was being treated for injuries that appeared to be non life threatening.

Stanton encouraged all users of the roadway to be careful and pay attention to traffic signals.
