At a special meeting last Thursday, Ontwa Township appointed six members to sit on the newly created Waste Water Board.

The seven-member board, which will include Ontwa Township Supervisor John Brielmaier, will consist of Freeman Lambright, James Robinson, Larry Banghart, John Brandt, John Bossler and David Taylor.

There were 10 applicants for the board. Nick Donis, one of the creators of Save Our Resources and Environment (SORE), withdrew his application prior to the meeting.

Bossler was the lone applicant to receive a vote from all seven Ontwa Township Board members. Brandt received six votes, while Robinson, Lambright and Taylor all received five of the seven votes.

Banghart received four votes.

The new board will have to deal with a variety of pressing topics including the mounting fines being levied by the Elkhart Department of Pubic Works and whether or not the township should build its own waste water treatment plant.

The Ontwa Township Board approved by-laws for the newly created board, with several modifications, prior to appointing the board members.
