The City of Dowagiac will host an informational meeting about the upcoming Russom Park playground build project at 3 p.m. Friday, May 30, at city hall.

Citizens interested in participating in helping with the community build are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting. Juan Bradford, a representative with equipment vendor Miracle Midwest, will lead the meeting, instructing attendees on ground rules, site preparation and other aspects of the project.

The build will take place next month on June 13 and June 14, from approximately 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the park. The city is looking to recruit around 20 volunteers to help with construction, 12 people to handle equipment assembly and other heaving lifting needs and eight people for other assistance needs.

A number of groups have already expressed interest in contributing, including the Indian Lake Fire Department, the Dowagiac Young Professionals group and Little League baseball and youth soccer leagues, according to Assistant City Manager Rozanne Scherr.

A signup sheet for volunteers will be available during the meeting, though people unable to attend can email Scherr at rscherr@dowagiac.org.
