Dowagiac police apprehend fleeing suspect

Dowagiac Police arrested a man who attempted to flee from police Tuesday evening, according to a release from the department.

The incident occurred around 8:25 p.m., after an officer attempted to stop a vehicle traveling northbound down Front Street that was using the turn lane to pass other vehicles.

The driver refused to pull over, fleeing from the officer’s vehicle at a high speed westbound on Prairie Ronde Street. When attempting to turn north onto Middle Crossing, the driver lost control of his vehicle, going over the curb and landing in the lawn of the Dowagiac National Guard Armory, disabling his vehicle.

The suspect then attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly apprehended by the pursuing officer. The man was arrested and taken to Cass County Jail on charges of fleeing police and resisting arrest.

His name is currently being witheld by authorities, pending his arraignment with Cass County District Court.

Dowagiac police were assited on scene by  Pokagon Police and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
