Event features show choir, jazz ensemble

Southwestern Michigan College’s Spring Pops Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday,  features the Show Choir and Jazz Ensemble.

Show Choir, directed by David Carew, performs three Beatles selections, “Here Comes the Sun” and “Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight” from the 1969 Abbey Road album and “Eleanor Rigby” from the 1966 Revolver album.

The Jazz Ensemble portion of the program, conducted by Dr. Jon Korzun, includes “Moanin’ ” by Charles Mingus; the Chuck Mangione tune “Feels So Good,” featuring River Valley graduate Kacie Mercer on flugelhorn; “God Bless the Child,” featuring Lakeshore graduate Jacob Blaylock on trombone; the Gershwin standard “They Can’t Take That Away from Me” with vocal soloist Andrew Fisher; and the Stevie Wonder hit “Higher Ground,” spotlighting Edwardsburg graduate Connie Kutschbach on alto saxophone.

The concert takes place in the theatre of the Dale A. Lyons Building on the Dowagiac campus.

Admission is free. Good will donations will be accepted.
