There will be very few breaks for the area sports teams as they hit mid-January, which means there is just about a month and a half left in the regular season.

The holidays are behind them, and hopefully so is the bad weather that forced cancellations Tuesday and Wednesday.

Some of those games will be made up this week, like Niles hosting Dowagiac in boys basketball Saturday afternoon.

The regular portion of the Vikings’ schedule finds them playing their arch rivals Tuesday night when they host Lakeshore in a Big 16 West Division clash.

The girls’ game will tip off at 5:45 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow at approximately 7:15 p.m.

The Niles girls basketball team will bring a 7-2 record into the contest following a loss to Kalamazoo Central Friday night. The Lancers are now 74-42 loss to No. 7-ranked Mishawaka Penn Saturday night.

Lakeshore is currently 6-2 on the year. The Lancers were led by Morgan Kaiser’s 14 points. Lauren Clem and Carley Dubbert both finished with 10 points.

The Niles boys basketball team is still in search of its first win of the season.

The Vikings are now 0-4 overall following a loss to Kalamazoo Central Friday night.

Lakeshore is 3-1 following its 51-45 win over rival St. Joseph Friday night.

The Lancers were led by Cooper Jennings’ 20 points. Rubin Conway added 13 and Mitch Meyer 10.

 

Brandywine girls at Hartford

The Brandywine girls basketball team will step out of Lakeland Conference action tonight to face host Hartford.

The Bobcats are 8-1 on the season following a 57-43 victory over rival Buchanan Friday night.

Michaela Hartline poured in a career-high 23 points to lead Brandywine to the victory.

The Indians improved to 3-4 with a 45-34 win over Marcellus Friday night.

Stephanie Scott had 15 points and Mariah Mireles 10 points for Hartford in the victory.

The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

The girls JV game will be played in the middle school gym at 5:45 p.m.

 

Brandywine boys at Hartford

The Bobcats will host Hartford in the first of two non-league games tonight at 5:45 p.m.

One of Hartford’s wins this season came against Bloomingdale, which Brandywine will host Tuesday night.

Alex Kimp was the only Indian to reach double figures as he scored 11 points.

The Bobcats come into the game with a 2-5 record. Brandywine was defeated by Eau Claire 32-31 Friday night.

The freshmen and JV games will be played in the middle school gym at 4:30 and 7 p.m.

 

Bloomingdale at Brandywine

Winless Bloomingdale will invade the Bobcats’ Den Tuesday night for a non-conference boys basketball game.

The Cardinals (0-5) were defeated by Saugatuck 66-15 Friday night.

Sam Siler had five points to lead Bloomingdale.

Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
