MATTAWAN — The Niles volleyball team was swept by host Mattawan in the opening round of the Class A District Tournament Tuesday.

The Wildcats defeated the Vikings 25-21, 25-20 and 25-9.

“My players came out strong at the start of the match,” Niles coach Jenny Nate said. “Our blocks were on and we went neck and neck for every point. The second set was the same pace and both teams fought for each point.

“During the third set we made a few mistakes early and they cost us. Mattawan was able to take a big lead and we never caught back up. I’m proud of my team and our season. We had some big wins and my players worked together as a team.”
