THREE OAKS — The Dowagiac volleyball team reached the semifinals of the River Valley Invitational Saturday.

The Chieftains were eliminated by Michigan Lutheran in the semifinals, 25-19 and 25-17.

In pool play, Dowagiac split with Grace Christian (1-1) and River Valley (1-1) before defeating Watervliet 25-16 and 25-21.

In the quarterfinals, the Chieftains defeated Bridgman 24-26, 25-20 and 15-13.

“The girls played great,” Dowagiac coach Sara Lawrence said. “I am so proud of them all for working so hard and getting so far in the tournament. I think we got third in the tournament, but the River Valley coach didn’t really know.”
