The Dowagiac freshmen football team dropped a 28-14 decision to visiting Paw Paw Thursday.

“The squad has fought through a lot of adversity the past two weeks as injuries have plagued us this season,” Dowagiac coach Chad Perrin said. “Many players were asked to move to new positions to help the team and they did so without question.

“I have said this before and will continue to say this team plays for each other and they took this loss pretty hard. They are a good group and we will put this behind us and start preparing for next week when we face Three Rivers at their place.”

The Dowagiac JV football team had its game with visiting South Haven halted at halftime due to a thunderstorm rolling through the area.

South Haven led 14-0 after one quarter, but the Chieftains rallied with 14 points in the second quarter to force a tie at the intermission.

Jacob Davis had already rushed for 171 yards and scored both touchdowns for the Chieftains by halftime.
