Dowagiac officers arrested a local man Sunday evening, Sept. 8, after a brief foot chase through a residential neighborhood.

Public Safety Director Steve Grinnewald reports officers were in the area of East Division and Edwards streets when they saw a subject wanted on a warrant for absconding from probation through the Michigan Department of Corrections.

When officers attempted to make contact with the subject, he fled from police and ran across East Division and through back yards in the 400 block.

The suspect, a 19-year-old male, was captured in the 200 block of Haines Street.

He was also found to be in possession of narcotics.

The suspect was arrested for the warrant, resisting and obstructing police and marijuana possession and lodged in the Cass County Jail in Cassopolis.

This case remains under investigation. Grinnewald asks that anyone with additional information contact the Dowagiac Police Department at (269) 782-9743 or the Cass County tip line at (800) 462-9328.
