Niles blanks Sturgis 38-0

The Niles sub-varsity football team blanked host Sturgis 38-0 Thursday night.

Due to a number of injuries, the Vikings used a combination of freshmen and JV players to take on the Trojans.

Niles opened the scoring on a 30-yard touchdown run by freshman Cameron Haines. Sophomore Adam Cole recovered a fumble to set up the next Vikings score, another 40-yard touchdown run by Haines, who also converted on a 2-point run making it 14-0.

Freshman Robert Buish scored on a 10-yard pass from freshman Jake Hamm. Hamm ran in for the 2-point conversion.

Freshman Mitch Findeisen intercepted a pass and returned it 50 yards for the score. Haines againscored on a 2-point conversion making it 30-0 at the half.

Freshman Dawson Clemens blocked a punt in the third quarter, allowing the Vikes to set up another scoring drive. Findeisen capped the drive with a four-yard run. Haines added the 2-point conversion.

Sophomore Antonio Moffit and Findeisen both recovered fumbles in the fourth quarter to preserve the shutout.

The Viking defense was led by sophomore Quintin Smith who had 12 tackles.

Haines finished the night with 132 rushing yards.
