Two located after industrial park thefts

Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood and Dowagiac Director of Public Safety Steven Grinnewald announce that on Friday, Aug. 23, at around 3:20 a.m., their agencies investigated two subjects for scrap metal and property theft at the Dowagiac Industrial Park. One subject was arrested at the scene.

The incident was discovered by two sheriff’s deputies in the area of the industrial park on Pokagon Street.

A suspicious vehicle was contacted by the deputies as it exited the industrial park.

The vehicle had two male subjects and was loaded with scrap metal and other property. Dowagiac police officers came to the scene as well. The two agencies learned that the metal and an air conditioning unit were stolen from businesses within the industrial park.

One of the subjects was arrested after the initial investigation. A warrant has been requested for a second subject.

The first subject who was arrested is identified as Michael Reeves, 21, of Wayne Township.

Reeves was arraigned in Fourth District Court of Cass County on charges of conspiracy to commit larceny $1,000-$20,000; larceny, $1,000-$20,000; conspiracy to receive and conceal stolen property, $1,000-$20,000; receiving and concealing stolen property $1,000-$20,000; conspiracy to commit malicious destruction of property $1,000-$20-000; and malicious destruction of property $1,000-$20-000.

Michael Reeves is held at the Cass County Jail on a $10,000 cash or surety bond.
