NILES — Southwestern Michigan College hosts a public viewing of its Niles campus Aug. 10 during a grand reopening celebration.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 33890 U.S. 12, just east of downtown Niles at the M-60 and U.S. 12 exchange in Cass County’s Milton Township.

In addition to campus tours, prospective students and family members can learn about classes and degrees offered in Niles, as well as enjoy family-oriented activities, including face painting, balloons and a zipline.

Food will also be provided.

The Student Service Center will be open and prospective students can apply for admission, register for classes and talk with advisers.

The college began the first phase of a three-year renovation project at the Niles campus this summer, including a new Student Service Center, a SCALE-UP science lab and an enhanced faculty and student commons area.

In addition, classes have been designed around potential students who may be working or have child care responsibilities.

Daytime classes begin in the morning and run through mid-afternoon with early evening classes.

Students can earn an associate in arts that can be transferred to a four-year program; a two-year business degree; and enroll in pre-nursing classes — all at the Niles campus.

Those attending the grand reopening celebration also can learn about SMC’s advanced technology programs offered at the Niles campus that include welding, mechatronics and precision machining.

Fall registration is currently going on with classes beginning Sept. 3.
