The Niles City Council on Monday approved an allotment of $2,000 toward water usage by the Niles Community Gardens at all their garden sites.

The City of Niles, historically, has supported the Niles Community Gardens project, which started in 2010.

There are currently four gardens found throughout Niles, including gardens at Ballard Elementary School, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Northside Child Development Center and Westside Administrative Center.

Niles Community Gardens is a non-profit organization helping people in Niles produce their own vegetables and fruits while learning how to exist more sustainably in Southwest Michigan.
