Michael Bennett: Tickets to sell, new technology and online galleries

Published 4:08 pm Wednesday, June 12, 2013

A combination of my move, last week’s Exposing Greatness Expo and the other items spilling off  my desk, I didn’t get a chance to write a column.

Heck, it is approaching deadline, and I almost forgot today.

The norm around here is that it is never boring.  I thoroughly enjoyed last week’s Expo at Niles High School as I got to meet several readers. And the survey showed others were in agreement as 100 percent said they would recommend it to others.

While she credits everyone else, Barbara Craig, Dean at Lake Michigan College, was the glue that pulled this fine event together. So speaking for the community, KUDO’s Barb! As you would say, you did a bloody good job, chap.

For those interested, the move went well. I have a nice, quiet space —  perfect for a busy and single publisher. Low-maintenance housing is perfect for my schedule.

It’s that time of the year when the Niles-Buchanan Rotary sells our $100 raffle tickets with proceeds going for local scholarships.

I still have a few left and would be grateful if you would contribute. There will be less than 200 tickets sold with $9,000 in cash prizes, including $5,000 for the winner. Odds are good.

Come see me with your check, and I’ll buy you a cup of coffee and discuss all you want to know about Leader Publications.

Technology upgrade

Leader Publications recently signed a contract for Computer to Plate (CTP) technology and, on Tuesday, Kodak was here for a site survey.

What does that mean to you?

It means better print quality, as we no longer will need film in the process of making our newspapers.

For me, it alleviates stress as I no longer need film processors with parts that are no longer manufactured.

Online galleries

Have you tried our new online community galleries?

It is your opportunity to post your photographs on our website.

As long as you have digital photographs and a computer, it is an easy process.

Go to Leaderpub.com, scroll down to the second picture, which is from the gallery, and click on the submit button. From there, all you have to do is upload your shots. After approval, yours will be posted and maybe printed in the newspaper.

Come get your raffle tickets, I only have a few left and just a week or so to sell them.
