Celebrating 46 years at one job

Joyce Hardy gets emotional as coworkers celebrate her retirement from Riveridge Manor in Niles Wednesday.
Niles’ Joyce Hardy has worked only once place her entire life.
She’s spent the last 46 years at Riveridge Manor Nursing Home in Niles, working as a certified nursing assistant.
Hardy, who graduated from Niles High School in 1969, started working at Riveridge when she was in the 11th grade. Back then her pay was $1.15 an hour.
Why’d she stick around so long? Her answer was simple.
“It was close to home,” Hardy said Wednesday during a company-sponsored retirement party at Riveridge.
A limousine transported Hardy to Riveridge where she was greeted with a red carpet and cheering coworkers.
David Craig, regional director of operations for Grace Healthcare presented Hardy a framed letter of appreciation from the company CEO, Stan Burton.
“It’s not everyday that somebody spends 46 years in one job,” Craig said. “We want to thank you so much.”
Hardy’s big surprise came next when she was given a 55-inch flat screen television to enjoy during retirement. She also received an engraved vase.
