City of Dowagiac Public Safety Director Tom Atkinson announces that on Monday, April 24, at around 10:04 p.m., officers from the police department located and arrested a wanted subject with illegal prescription pills in the 400 block of Chestnut Street.

While on patrol Dowagiac police observed a 34-year-old male subject known to be wanted on two separate bench warrants. The bench warrants were for failing to appear for sentencing in a 2012 possession of marijuana case and for failing to appear for sentencing in a 2012 domestic violence case.

When police contacted the subject he was found to be in possession of seven different kinds of prescription tablets. This included two prescription medications that were schedule 2 controlled substances. The subject was found not to have a prescription for any of the medications. Police arrested the subject for the two outstanding bench warrants and two counts of felony possession of schedule 2 controlled substances.

The subject was lodged at Cass County Jail where he awaits arraignment in Fourth District Court of Cass County.  This matter remains under investigation.
