COLOMA — The Dowagiac golf team moved into a tie for first place in the Wolverine Conference West Division Monday.

The Chieftains and Coloma are now tied atop the division standings with 11 points each. The Comets won the first jamboree last Friday, while Dowagiac won Monday’s at Lake Michigan Hills with a score of 170.

The Comets finished second with a 175. Edwardsburg was third with a 180.

The Chieftains’ Jordan Juday claimed the medalist honors for the second straight match as he battled less than ideal conditions to post a 38.

“They played better,” Dowagiac coach Van Johnson said. “The real key obviously was the Wild score. We are still juggling the line-up, but by the time we play the conference again next Tuesday at Hampshire, we will have a better idea of where the kids fell comfortable at.”

Wild had his score disqualified in the first jamboree due to the use of an electronic device during the match.

Johnson said the weather played a factor in the final three holes of the match.

“The rain was really coming down,” he said. “But you want to get those last holes in and not call the kids off the coarse and have to come back here another day.”
