A gun was seized and an Indiana man was arrested for driving while intoxicated during a routine traffic stop Sunday in Berrien County.

Robert J. Milzarek, 41, of LaPorte, Ind., is facing charges of carrying a concealed weapon, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, possessing a firearm while intoxicated and improper registration.

Milzarek was pulled over by Berrien Springs Oronoko Township Police around 2:10 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 31 near mile marker 12.

Milzarek had a male passenger in the car from the Benton Township area, who was not charged and ultimately released.

Milzarek was not able to produce any paperwork on the vehicle as the license plate on the truck belonged to another vehicle. An officer noticed the butt of a handgun sticking out of Milzarek’s pants pocket. The firearm, a loaded .38 caliber snub nose revolver, was seized and Milzarek was secured. A large sheath knife was also found on Milzarek.

Milzarek was taken to the Berrien County Jail after taking a breath test indicating results of .10 blood alcohol content.

The case remains under investigation.
