Burandt, Findeisen, Hutchison to wrestle for state titles

AUBURN HILLS — Niles’ Casey Burandt and Fritzel Findeisen advanced to the Division 2 state finals with wins at the MHSAA Individual Finals at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

The Vikings’ Ryan Casey was defeated in his semifinal match Friday night.

Burandt (31-1) defeated Dom Chong of Sparta 13-11 in his 145-pound semifinal, while Findeisen (49-5) went overtime to defeat Escanaba’s Travis Heller 6-4 at 152.

Casey (52-3) was defeated by St. Johns’ Payne Hayden 15-8.

Burandt will face St. Johns’ Ben Whitford in the championship match. Findeisen will face St. Johns’ Josh Pennell in the title match.

In Division 4, Brandywine’s Chanc Ravish will wrestle for third place at 140 pounds. He was defeated by New Lothrop’s Jacob Perrin in the semifinals 13-5. Ravish lost to Perrin last season in the championship match.

Defending 215-pound state champion Gage Hutchison of Buchanan will defend his title Saturday afternoon after winning by technical fall (19-2) over Jay Sroufe of Dundee.

Wrestling at The Palace will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the third round of consolation matches.

The consolation finals are scheduled to begin at 10:10 and the consolation finals at 11:30 a.m.

The championship matches in all Divisions will begin at 4:45 p.m. Matches can be seen live on MHSAA.tv.
