Niles trio advances to state semifinals

AUBURN HILLS — Niles’ Casey Burandt, Fritzel Findeisen and Ryan Casey all advanced to the Division 2 MHSAA Individual Finals at The P

alace of Auburn Hills Friday afternoon.

Buchanan’s Gage Hutchison also advanced to the semifinals in Division 3 and Brandywine’s Chanc Ravish reached the semifinals in Division 4.

Burandt (30-1) defeated Lapeer East’s Dillon Ellsworth 8-4, while Findeisen (48-5) defeated Gaylord’s Trent Hunt 9-4.

Casey (52-2) edged Tecumseh’s Landon Pelham 18-14.

Hutchison pinned Jay Sroufe of Dundee in 1:14 to move within two wins of defending his state championship.

Ravish pinned Mark Workman of Hesperia in 4:48 to advance to tonight’s semifinals.

Edwardsburg freshman Michael Higley remained alive at 103 in Division 2.

After winning his first match, Highley lost to Lucas Hall of Lowell in the quarterfinals, but rebounded to defeat Jordan Richardson of Ionia 4-2.

Higley will finish no worse than eighth.

In Division 4, Brandywine’s Joe Monica remains alive after winning two consolation matches.

Molica pinned Trever Keenan of XXX and then defeated Charlie Robertson of XXX 10-3.

Monica is guaranteed to finish no worse than eighth.
