VICKSBURG — The Dowagiac wrestling team went 1-4 at the Vicksburg Invitational Saturday.

The Chieftains were originally scheduled to host their own tournament, but were forced to cancel the event when several teams dropped out.

At Vicksburg, Dowagiac was defeated by eventual champion Brandywine, Lake Odessa-Lakewood, Hopkins and Delton-Kellogg.

The Chieftains’ lone victory came against Forrest Hills Northern.

“I was very happy with our effort on the mat,” Dowagiac coach Matt Alward said. “I have to keep reminding my men that we are freshmen and sophomores wrestling against upper classman. I don’t think anyone works harder on the mat than we do. We just lack experience. That only comes with wrestling more matches. ”

Going 4-1 on the day were Matt Lyle and Tom Smith.
