Traffic crash injures five, including four teenagers

CASSOPOLIS — Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his deputies handled a personal-injury crash on Downey Street west of Red Mill Road in Silver Creek Township at 4:31 a.m. Nov. 11.

The driver, identified as 17-year-old Devin Cromer from St. Joseph, stated he was traveling west on Downey when he got distracted, ran off the roadway to the right and struck a tree.

Passengers are identified as Maggie Denly, 16; Vendela Hale, 17; and Tori Smith, 16, all from Dowagiac, and Logan Martin from Eau Claire.

All were transported to Lakeland Hospital in Niles except for Martin, who was transported to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac, for treatment of their injuries.
Dowagiac Police Department, Sister Lakes Fire Department and Pride Care Ambulance assisted deputies at the scene.
Alcohol was not a factor. Seat belts were worn at the time of the accident.
