Chamber of Commerce staff and volunteers are planning a new fall event, Under the Harvest Moon, that will take place in downtown Dowagiac on Saturday, Oct. 8.
The one-day festival is being built around a display of antique tractors and vendors selling antiques, fall produce, baked goods and hand-made merchandise.
It will include an in-store sales event, Harvest the Savings, which businesses can adapt to their own needs, whether for a storewide sale or a specific merchandise line.
All downtown businesses, merchants and professional offices are being encouraged to join the fun by helping adorn the central business district for autumn with a scarecrow decorating contest.
A traveling plaque will be awarded to the top vote-getter, with public balloting taking place the day of the event.
Organizers partnered with Let’s Dance and Co., which will deliver bundles of cornstalks.
Businesses can also order bales of straw and mums for displays.
Supplies will be delivered to businesses on Sept. 19. Scarecrow contest participants should have displays in place by Wednesday, Oct. 5. Supplies to enter the contest should be ordered from the Chamber by Sept. 12.
