BUCHANAN – The opening match of the Lakeland Conference Soccer Tournament was not kind to Brandywine.

In fact, for the Bobcats, the match went much the same way their season has gone, roughly.

Brandywine could only muster two-shots on goal en route to being blanked by the Bucks 6-0, a stat that did not sit well with Bobcat coach Evan Winkler.

“I’m a little disappointed, we couldn’t get anything going offensively. We had some passes that we needed to hit, but just couldn’t hit, and to their credit (Buchanan), they really brought it. They played physical and we didn’t adjust to that,” he said.

The lack offense wasn’t the only contributing factor to the Bobcats’ lopsided loss; the defense had its lion’s share of tough times too.

Buchanan’s forward pairing of Kevin Dey and Alex Martinez laid waste to the Brandywine defense and wreaked havoc on Bobcat keeper Brock Hartline. The two combined for five of their team’s six goals, as well as 11 of the Bucks’ 18 shots on net.

“We’re just going to keep grinding. Hopefully, we’ll see some of the improvements we’d like to see and finish these last three games the best we can,” said Winkler. “We can be a lot better than what we were tonight.”

Brandywine will vie for a third place finish in the tournament when it plays the losing team of the Cassopolis-Bridgman match on Wednesday.
