The Barn Swallow Theatre will present “Jungle Book, Kids” July 8-10 at Southwestern Michigan College.

The annual children’s musical will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, July 8 and Saturday, 9 and at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 10.

This entertaining production, directed by Laura Schippers, is based on the animated movie and includes all the songs, such as “Bare Necessities.”

The story follows the adventures of Mowgli, played by Ethan Sheets, who is a boy raised in the jungle by wolves. Bagherra, played by Jacqueline Kelly-Cogdell, tries to take him to a jungle village where he will be with other children.

Villains such as Kaa, the snake, played by Daina Schippers, and Shere Khan, the tiger, played by Haley Bumgarner, make this a difficult task. Louie the Monkey King of the Jungle, played by McKena Bolin tries to kidnap him, but he is rescued by Baloo the Bear, played by Caitlin Reed.

The 34 cast members range in age from 5 to 15 and hail from many areas, including Edwardsburg, Cassopolis, Dowagiac and Three Rivers.

The play will likely be the last show on the road for the formerly nomadic theater group. Barn Swallow will perform its next production, “Godspell,” at its new home theater near Adamsville Road in Edwardsburg.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and children under 12. Tickets are available at the door. For more information, visit www.barnswallowtheatre.com.
