Dolly Edwards: Freshman adjust at New Tech

Bells are ringing, minds are buzzing, and class is back in session at Niles New Tech. School for the sophomores is a little different though — there’s a new freshman class in the halls.

Many sophomores, such as Jake Jordan, think the school year is going to bring some difficulty for the new high schoolers.

“School is gonna start out easy, and they’re going to think they have it down. Then suddenly it’s going to push them,” Jordan said. “Hard.”

Most of the 10th-graders are positive about the school doubling in size.

“I really like having them here,” Emily Casey said. “Us sophomores are learning really good leadership skills and how to be a good role model.”

Some students I talked to don’t think the new freshman were going to be pushed as hard. Sophomore Marina Thornton told me  she didn’t think they would have much trouble adapting.

“They seem to have less trouble with the group work process,” she said. “They look more comfortable and are adapting faster then we did as freshman.”

Most agree with the opinion the freshmen know a little more what they’re getting themselves into, because they have the sophomores to help.
