CASSOPOLIS — Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz referred to him as a “walking drug cocktail.”

Facing his sentencing Friday in Cass County Circuit Court for possession of methamphetamine and cocaine, Niles resident Kaleb Reid listened to Fitz list off the drugs he has used over the years.

To go along with cocaine and meth, Reid has used heroine, LSD and marijuana. At age 25, he has five felonies and 17 misdemeanors on his record.

Reid was sentenced to 150 days in jail for the offenses with credit for 45 days already served.

Defense attorney Dale Blunier said his client has a young son who needs his father.

“He wants to be a man and a father,” Blunier said.

For his part, Reid apologized to the court.

“I just want to get out and take care of my son, get in a treatment center,” he said. “And start to be a man and take care of my responsibilities.”

Also Friday, a Niles man was sentenced to 18 months on probation for violating the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act.

Nicholas Moore, a 23-year-old medical marijuana cardholder, was found with two marijuana plants growing outside his home, a violation of a provision of the statute that requires medical marijuana card holders to keep their drugs in a secure, locked facility.
