School supplies are making their way back to store shelves and backpacks and shopping lists of busy parents.

But while plenty of students are soaking up as much summer as they can, schools prepare for another year of lesson plans and exams and the quest for higher achievement.

One Edwardsburg student starting the year off on a good note is Marcus Albrecht. The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) recently announced Albrecht, who will be a senior at Edwardsburg High School this year was recognized by the organization for superior academic achievement.

“On behalf of the NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice and commitment that Marcus has demonstrated to achieve this level of academic excellence,” NSHSS founder and chairman Claes Nobel said.

Nobel is a senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes.

“Marcus is now a member of a unique community of scholars,” he said. “A community that represents our very best hope for the future.”

Albrecht was selected for membership in May.

The society recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved academic excellence.

“Our vision is to build a dynamic international organization that connects members with meaningful content, resources and opportunities,” NSHSS president James Lewis said. “We aim to help students like Marcus build on their academic successes and enhance the skills and desires to have a positive impact on the global community.”

Membership in the NSHSS entitles qualified students to enjoy a wide variety of benefits including scholarships opportunities, academic competitions, free events, member-only resources, publications, participation in programs offered by educational partners, online forums, personalized recognition items and publicity honors.

Albrecht is the son of Lynn and Kathy Albrecht.

He is active in soccer, basketball and the National Honor Society.
