Niles Senior All-Stars edged by Vicksburg

CONSTANTINE – The Niles Senior Baseball All-Stars fell into the consolation bracket of the Michigan District 15 Tournament following a 11-9 loss to Vicksburg Thursday night.

Niles got off to a good start, scoring a run in the first and two runs in the third inning.

Vicksburg scored three times in the third inning to deadlock the contest at 3-3.

Niles scored two more runs in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead into the sixth inning.

Niles added a run in the sixth, while Vicksburg scored eight times in the top half of the frame to open up an 11-6 lead.

Niles scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but could not catch Vicksburg.

Cody Taggert had two singles and a two-run home run for Niles, while Brian Exner and Rashad Harris both had two hits.

Riley Robson took the loss for Niles.

Niles will now face Constantine in the consolation finals on Saturday at 11 a.m. The winner advances to face Vicksburg in the title game at Thomas Stadium on Tuesday at 8 p.m.

If a second title game is needed, it will be played on Wednesday, July 22 at 8 p.m. at Thomas Stadium.

In other District 15 games on Thursday, Coldwater blanked Dowagiac 11-0 in 10-11 Baseball; Mattawan Gold edged Centreville 7-6 and Vicksburg Red defeated Three Rivers 12-2 in 9-10 Baseball; Vicksburg defeated Mattawan 10-4 and Decatur routed Three Rivers 14-1 in Major Baseball; and

Schoolcraft rolled by Three Rivers 24-4 in Junior Baseball.

Tonight, Niles F.O.P. Park will host the Mattawan Gold and Vicksburg Red in 9-10 Baseball at 6 p.m., while Three Rivers will take on host Vicksburg at 6 in Major Baseball; and Niles will compete for the Junior Baseball championship in Schoolcraft at Swan Park against the host team, also at 6.

Eaton Park Invitational
The Brandywine All-Stars will take on Berrien Springs in Peanut B action tonight at Eaton Park beginning at 6:45.

Buchanan will face Watervliet at 5:30 p.m. in Minor C, while Buchanan will take on Watervliet in Little C at 5:30 and Niles will face South Haven at 7:30.
