ANN ARBOR -- The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) announced that Edwardsburg Intermediate School was awarded top school improvement honors.
Edwardsburg Intermediate School was among the michigan schools honored in March for completing a five-year, eight-phase improvement program.
In addition to meeting the traditional accreditation standards, which includes teacher preparation and number of instructional hours, a school improvement approach has been adopted that requires a new level of accountability.
Administrators and staff make a commitment to implement a plan of continuous effort to improve student performance in selected areas. The documentation of results throughout this demanding improvement cycle reveals the effectiveness of the plan.
A vital component to the overall evaluation process is peer review. Edwardsburg Intermediate School has been successful in demonstrating to the visiting peer review team that students are indeed performing better in the selected target areas than they were before the process was implemented.
The report from the field visit of the peer review team resulted in a recommendation of Edwardsburg Intermediate school for endorsement to the michigan NCA State Committee.
This committee, which is elected by the membership of the Michigan North Central Association, reviewed the documentation both from the school and the team.
Upon their approval, the North Central Association of Colleges and School, Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement, awarded Edwardsburg Intermediate School its highest school improvement honor.
There are one third of the approximately 1,600 NCA accredited schools in Michigan, which have completed the entire process successfully.
