Soybean meeting here

MSU Extension and the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee is sponsoring a research update on soybean disease from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan 18 at the Dowagiac Conservation Club, 54551 M-51 North, Dowagiac.

Research results from the soybean sudden death syndrome research trials on Carl and Amy Druskovich’s Farm near Decatur, as well as several other studies conducted in southwest Michigan, will be highlighted at this meeting.
Topics include an overview of sudden death syndrome (SDS) and implications of the spread of the disease; seed treatment impacts on SDS; soybean cyst nematode resistant variety results; variety trial results on a severely infected infested site; update of host plant resistance; overview of on-farm research projects conducted in 2011 and an update on using the Sipcam product, Contans, for white mold control.
The keynote presentation, “SDS and other Soybean Diseases, an Indiana Perspective,” will be presented by Kiersten Wise, Purdue field crops pathologist.
Other speakers for the event include George Bird, MSU field crops nematologist; Fred Warner, MSU Diagnostic Clinic; Brad Serven, MSU graduate studentl; John Boyse, MSU research technician and soybean variety trial program manager; and MSUE educators Mike Staton and Bruce MacKellar.
The session will be introduced and moderated by Keith Reinholt, field operation director for the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee.
Lunch will be provided by Scott’s Pig Roast and More of Marcellus. There is no charge for the meeting or the meal for growers, but they ask that you reserve your spot by registering by phone by Wednesday, Jan. 11.
