Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians Chairman Matt Wesaw doesn’t dance. “I have absolutely zero rhythm,” Wesaw said. “But if I could dance, I can’t imagine being out there today in this heat,” which climbed from 85 at 1 p.m. Sept. 3 to 91 by 3.
Everyone else seemed to be dancing, including three members of the Cass County Board of Commissioners, Bob Wagel, Dale Lowe and Carl Higley in the veterans tribute led by head veteran George Martin on Saturday at the 26th annual Kee Boon Mein Kaa Pow Pow at Rodgers Lake on Sink Road southwest of Dowagiac.
“As you all know with the heat and humidity we’ve had here the last couple of days, it is good to be finished with the huckleberry harvest,” Wesaw said. “Now it’s time to dance, celebrate and talk with friends and family.”
This year the tribe could celebrate its new Community Center on Dailey Road and the grand opening of Four Winds Hartford casino on Aug. 30.
