Five Chieftains first team all-league

Dowagiac landed five players on the first team of the All-Wolverine Conference football squad, which was released recently.

The Chieftains had three players on offense and two players on defense.

Named to the offensive side of the football were Austin Adams (running back), Rick Roach (center) and Brett Scanlon (kicker). On defense, Anthony Nelson (linebacker) and Troy Butcher (defensive back) were selected by the Wolverine Conference coaches.

Second team picks for the Chieftains were Dontrell Tucker (offensive line), Brett Lesniak (offensive line) and Cody Carlisle (offensive line). Sam Courtney was named to the honorable mention portion of the squad as a tight end.

Conference champion Paw Paw had four players named to the first team and grabbed five spots overall as Marquis Gill was selected on both offense and defense. The Redskins’ Brad Hessler was named Coach of the Year.
