Dowagiac golfers finish second at jamboree

RICHLAND – The Dowagiac golf team is battling its way back into the Wolverine Conference golf chase.

The Chieftains finished second on Wednesday afternoon at Stonehedge Golf Course while league-leading Vicksburg placed fourth.

Plainwell shot 155, three strokes better than Dowagiac at 158. Otsego also shot 158, but finished third based on the fifth-man tiebreaker.

Vickburg shot 161 and Gull Lake 166 to round out the top five.

Dowagiac’s Kyle Ward tied with Plainwell’s Tyler Swinehart for medalist honors as the two finished at 37.

Three other golfers tied for third at 38 and another four golfers tied for sixth at 39.

Yet another group of five golfers tied for 10th with rounds of 40.

The Chieftains also got a 39 from Max Howe and a 40 from Cody Fairleigh. Chris Craft shot 42 and Jordan Juday 43.

The Dowagiac JV golf team raised its record to 6-2 with a 194-211 win over Eau Claire on Wednesday.

Cam Ruff earned medalist honors with a 46. Gaige Grant shot 48, while Andrew Cripe shot 50, Paul Lamphere shot 50, Marc Tyrakowski shot 52 and Conner East shot 56.
