Southwestern Michigan College has teamed up with Ferris State University to offer a new four-year degree at its Dowagiac and Niles campuses.

SMC and Ferris signed an articulation agreement Sept. 8 to offer the bachelor’s of science in human resource management degree at SMC.

The four-year degree provides the foundation for a career in human resources, one of Michigan’s Top 50 fastest-growing jobs.

“This is another opportunity for students attending Southwestern Michigan College to obtain a four-year degree right on our campuses,” said Dr. Diane Chaddock, executive vice president and chief operating officer.

SMC President Dr. David Mathews said, “With the opening of the Keith H. McKenzie Hall, students can come here for four years and live on campus.”

Students can begin their first two years at SMC taking core courses and then enroll in the bachelor’s in human resource management degree, Dr. Chaddock said. The human resource management degree is one of six bachelor’s degrees offered at SMC.

Other four-year degrees offered through Ferris at SMC are accountancy, business administration, business administration-professional track and computer information systems. In addition, a bachelor’s of science in organizational management can be obtained through Bethel College.
