Bridgman knock off Niles tennis team

NILES – Visiting Bridgman pulled out a 5-3 non-conference victory over the Niles tennis team on Tuesday.

The Bees, who are one of the favorites to win both a Lakeland Conference championship and a regional title, won three out of four singles flights and then split the doubles flights to earn the win.

Niles’ lone victory in singles play came at No. 2 doubles where Jared Langmeyer won a three-set thriller over Charlie Pawlik.

Langmeyer won the first set 7-6, but lost the second set to Pawlik 6-3.

In the third and deciding set, Langmeyer slip past Pawlik 7-6.

The Vikings’ No. 1 doubles team of Chris and Alex Lewellen defeated Josiah Badger and Joseph Koehler in straight sets 6-2 and 6-0.

Niles’ other victory came at No. 4 doubles, where Chad Majerek and Patrick Schrader defeated Chad Starbuck and Zach Bauer 6-1 and 6-3.

Niles will host another Lakeland Conference opponent on Thursday as Edwardsburg comes to town for a 4 p.m. match.
