Troopers from the Michigan State Police are in the process of locating 17 non-compliant registered sex offenders who failed to report during the January verification period.

All registered sex offenders in Michigan were required to verify their addresses with law enforcement between Jan. 1 and Jan. 15.

There are currently 468 registered sex offenders in Berrien County.

As of Jan. 16, those offenders who failed to verify their addresses as required can be arrested and charged with a misdemeanor.

Offenders not located by officers will have warrants requested for their arrests.

Troopers are requesting citizens visit the Michigan State Police Public Sex Offender website at www.mipsor.state.mi.us.

According to the website, 101 registered sex offenders reside in Niles and 28 live in Buchanan.

In Cass County, 20 registered sex offenders are residing in Edwardsburg; 22 live in Cassopolis; and 75 live in Dowagiac.
