PLAINWELL — The Dowagiac softball team traveled back to Plainwell Monday night to complete a game started 10 days ago and stopped by thunderstorms.
When the Wolverine Conference doubleheader was stopped, the Chieftains led 5-1 in the first game. Each team scored one more run Monday afternoon as Dowagiac took a 6-2 victory.
The Chieftains (17-13) completed the sweep with a 5-0 win over the Trojans in the nightcap.
“We did what we had to do tonight to win two games,” Dowagiac coach Mike Behnke said. “We got good pitching and played good defense and pushed runs across when we had opportunities. We have been in a team hitting slump lately, but took some better swings tonight and used some small ball to get runners on base.”
Dowagiac had six hits in the opener, led by Devon Ownby with a double. Rachel Bailey, Kiele Belew and Tara Sova all drove in a run.
Miranda East earned the victory as she scattered five hits.
In the second game, Dowagiac banged out eight hits, including three from Katie Lorenz. East tripled and drove in three runs, while Bailey added an RBI single.
Tara Sova earned the shut out as she gave up five hits.
Dowagiac is right back at it today as it hosts Paw Paw in another Wolverine Conference twinbill.
