Tammi Phillippe and Kathy McCumber from Think Energy with Efficiency United recently came to Brandywine Elementary School and talked to sixth grade students about ways they could become more active in going green.

Think! Energy first started last December as an outreach program by Indiana and Michigan Power Co. and Efficiency United to educate students in conservation of natural resources. Efficiency United’s motto is “Save energy, Save money!” During the presentation, they taught students that they should “think” about energy, “talk” about energy and “take action.” The Michigan Department of Education also works with Think Energy with Efficiency United because PA 295 of 2008 was passed to encourage investment into educating people to be efficient in energy usage.

With this program the students will take home a Take Action Kit, which includes two CFL light bulbs, energy saving showerheads, a lime light and other items that teach families how to be efficient with energy in their homes. This kit will help students learn how important energy is, and how they can take action to help cut down on energy waste.
